The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies started admitting and training students in teacher education in 2003. Prior to this, the department was called Social Sciences Department and included history and geography units.
The training program of regular students lasts for 3 solid years while training of evening and summer students lasts for 5 and 4 years respectively .At the end of the year training, the department gives B. Ed. degree in geography and environmental studies to those who successfully completed the program of the department. Students graduating in geography and environmental studies can minor either history or economics.
Currently the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies has 5 instructors. The department started its program in training 51 students in the year 2003. Currently it accepts 120 to 150 students. There are 283 regular, 97 evening and 223 summers (in-service students in the department.
